Two life sentences for a man who raped two sisters aged 7 and 9 years. The sentence is running at the same time.
The Brandfort Regional Court sentenced a 41-year-old man to two life terms behind bars for the rape of two sisters aged 9 and 7 in 2010.
Mojalefa Seleke was sentenced on Monday, spokesperson of the Free State National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Phaladi Shuping said.
According to Shuping, Seleke lured the young girls to church and raped them on numerous occasions.
“Seleke ‘s grandfather was responsible for keeping the keys of the church secure. Seleke will take the keys to the church as if he was going to clean the church, “Shuping said.
Seleke raped the 9-year-old girl for the first time, gave her yoghurt, and begged her not to tell anyone.
He raped the 7-year-old later and gave her a packet of potato chips to buy her silence, Shuping said.
“The family of the 9-year-old girl saw behavioral changes in her, but they couldn’t find out what was going on because she wasn’t telling them what was wrong.
Months later, her mother found in her room a written piece of paper that sparked concerns that she may have been abused. She didn’t say anything to her mother when she asked her what she had written.
“Months later, the 9-year-old girl overheard her 7-year-old sister asking her friends what Seleke had done to her. She found that not only did he break her, but he also violated her younger sister. The incident was confirmed to her parents and the accused was arrested.
Seleke declined to rape the sisters.
However, after hearing testimony from the victims, the court sentenced him to two life sentences on each count.
The sentence will run at the same time.
The court also ruled that he was unfit to own a weapon and that his name must be included in the National Registry of Sex Offenders.
