Nasty C shared his Zulu Man With Some Power project in August. Fans immediately gravitated to his collaboration with the songwriter Ari Lennox, titled “Black and White.”
The song eventually got an official music video, with Ari playing Nasty’s love interest. For the hook of the hit, the pair feeds each other’s vocals and goes back and forth:
It could be so simple, black and white, yeah. You come first like rent due, I see your potential, It could be so simple, black and white, yeah/ Don’t make it complicated. I’ll be your peace, you be my baby, yeah/ Cut off my bitches for my favourite. For my my black and white, yeah. For my my black and white, yeah.
The visual illustrates a love tale from the viewpoints of both couples, Ari living in D.C., from thousands of miles apart. Staying with Nasty in Cape Town, South Africa. The video is a reminder to do what you can to keep the bond strong by sending cute texts, thoughtful presents, and more, even though there is a great distance between them. 20 tracks and features from names such as T.I., Lil Gotit, Lil Keed, and Tellaman were included in Nasty C’s Zulu Man With Some Strength. In the official soundtrack for the Coming 2 America film, the “Black and White” track is included.
Ari Lennox’s last full length solo project was 2019’s Shea Butter Baby, which boasts well-loved hits like “BMO,” “Whipped Cream” and “Shea Butter Baby” with J. Cole. Since then, Ari could also heard singing verses and hooks all over her label Dreamville’s Revenge of the Dreamers III project and on Skip Marley’s EP Higher Place on the song “Make Me Feel” alongside Rick Ross. She also shared a surprise loosie for her fans titled “Cognac Eyes.”
